1. Region 6 Quad @ Kearns at 3:30 on Wednesday. All track athletes are expected to compete unless you have cleared an absence with the coaches ahead of time or the coaches specifically tell you that you are not competing. The bus will leave from the front entrance at 2:30. All athletes must ride the bus to the meet. Athletes may leave with a parent after completing all of their events and checking out with the coaches.
2. Alpha Invite Results Outstanding job everyone! That was an incredible first state qualifying meet! Girls were the top team from 4A and Boys 1 point behind Timpanogos. Take out the pole vault and the boys would have been the top 4A team as well! Spring Break Workouts Have a great spring break, but don't forget to keep training hard on your own or together. Sprinters and Jumpers follow the schedule below. Workout together if you can. We left 6 hurdles out for those who want to practice hurdling over break. Look at your schedule over spring break and make time for one of the following workouts each day. Each workout has a difficulty level. Don’t put hard workouts on back to back days. Each Day Warm up!!!!! ABC’s, High knees, A skips, B Skips, Everything... After workout do core and strength training. Cool down and stretch!!!! Workout 1 Hard On track if possible, if not in a park or simulate the best you can. Choose a safe place to run. 50 -75 -100 -150 -200-300-200-150-100-75-50 with one minute break each. Fill in break with core and strength training. Full out sprint on distances from 50 – 100, work on accelerating faster and faster. Distances of 150 – 300, tempo sprint. Keep it smooth and efficient. Workout 2 Recovery Recovery jog 3 miles with several 100 to 200 meter acceleration tempo sprints every so often. This can be done on trails, beach, anywhere. Cool down and stretch after. Workout 3 Medium Repetitive Resistance Sprints - Be creative! Full out sprints between 50 and 100 meters uphill. Total distance of sprints should add up to at least 1600m of sprinting distance. Workout 4 Medium Power Day - Work on strength and power. 1600m run first. Plyometric or jumping exercises, weight room. Work on legs and upper body. 6 x 50 meter accelerations. Workout 5 Hard Over-speed Training - QTY 12 x (100m to 200m) accelerations to max speed - Walk back recovery. Attempt to find a slight decline hill or run with the wind. The idea is to find a way to run faster than normally possible with the aid of wind or downhill incline. Distance follow the schedule on the cross country website. Seniors will organize and explain workouts. Throwers hit the weights and throw if you get a chance. Team Dinner tonight at 5:30 hosted by the Thomases. The address is 4086 Aposhian Circle.
If you are competing on Saturday please look this information over carefully. 1. Check the Olympus Entries and make sure you know all of your events 2. Please arrive at least 45 minutes before field events and an hour before running events. The meet may run ahead or behind this timeline because it is a rolling schedule. Dress for the weather, it will be cold in the morning and hot during the afternoon. We expect the meet to run until about 5:00. Athletes are encouraged to stay for the entire meet but may leave with a parent after completing all of their events. Bring running shoes, spikes, uniform, lots of water, food, and warm clothes/blankets. 3. Spectator cost is $2. 4. Check the Heat Sheets for your heat/flight and lane assignments. This is the last week to join track and field for this season and to complete registration, fees, and physicals.
2. Some athletes have not been at practice consistently. Please remember that practice is mandatory and everyday after school. Absences need to be excused with coaches prior to happening. 3. Cougar Relay Results We finished 3rd overall as a team despite only competing in a limited number of events. It was a great start to our season! 4. Alpha Invite @ Timpanogos this Saturday. This is a limited entry meet for varsity athletes. The coaches will let athletes know about their entries by Thursday at practice. All varsity athletes need to plan to compete. Alpha Invite Information 5. Our first team dinner is scheduled for Friday. Please encourage your parents to consider signing up. 6. Uniforms will be passed out again on Tuesday at 2:10 in room 324. You must be completely eligible to receive a uniform. Pictures will be at 1:00 on Wednesday in the main gym in uniform. Dress for the weather, it will be cold in the morning. If we can get all of the spots filled we will add more dates. *Complete your registration or you will not be able to continue practicing. *Sign-up to compete in the Cougar Relays on Saturday will happen at practice on Wednesday. *Uniforms will be issued on Friday to athletes who are eligible. All athletes who are competing Saturday must attend Friday practice to practice handoffs and get a uniform. |
