Next Friday, February 4th, there will be an indoor meet at the Olympic Oval in Kearns. This is a great opportunity to have some fun without making a day-long commitment to a track meet :) Registration and meet information is on https://ut.milesplit.com/meets/453600-utah-distance-challenge-2022#.Ye8evvnMI2w The last indoor meet of the season (in our area) is the UHSTCA Indoor Championship on February 11th at the Olympic Oval in Kearns. Registration is OPEN and meet information is at https://runnercard.com/e/runner.Main?meet=1003930 **Simplot Games is CANCELLED*** If you had made plans to attend the meet, please cancel those reservations. Coach Betsy Alexanderson is stepping down as head coach. Because of this, we are in need of a new head coach.
Coach Betsy plans to continue coaching track athletes in distances and/or throws. Coach Tara plans to continue coaching sprints, relays, long jump, and high jump. Coach George plans to continue coaching mid-distance and hurdles. Our current coaching staff is highly qualified and can coach all events. We are in need of a head coach who is willing to handle more administrative and logistical duties such as placing orders for gear and equipment, organizing parent volunteers, registering for our competitions, making sure athletes have met registration requirements, and scheduling buses. Two of the 3 coaches have experience with head track coach responsibilities in the state of Utah and are happy to offer advice and on-the-job training. If you or anyone you know is able to fill this role, please apply ASAP. The position closes this Friday. If you miss the application window, please call the Olympus High School office to inquire about the opening. Please click the link below to apply for the Head Track Coach position at Olympus High School. https://www.applitrack.com/graniteschools/onlineapp/default.aspx?AppliTrackPostingSearch=location:%22OLYMPUS+SR.+HIGH%22&AppliTrackJobId=6712&AppliTrackLayoutMode=detail&AppliTrackViewPosting=1 Preseason training is on Tuesday and Thursday from January 4th - February 17th.
Workouts begin at 2:30 PM and end around 4:00-4:30PM. You DO NOT need to compete in indoor meets in order to attend preseason training. If you plan on attending preseason training regularly, please get on registermyathlete.com for outdoor track (boys track OR girls track) early so we have emergency information if needed. Coach Matt Barnes can assign you a locker for the track season. You can find him in his office in the main gym. Let him know that you need a locker for the track season and he will be happy to help. We encourage you to compete twice this winter to remember/get acquainted with the track and field feelings, rituals, and schedule. YOU are responsible for REGISTERING for indoor meets on Runnercard or through the even website. Coaches will NOT be at meets. If we are there, it will be a happy surprise :) Links to Indoor Meet Registration: Indoor meets are typically $5-15 per event. At some meets you can register the day of the meet. BYU Indoor Invite 1/21-1/22 Weber State Indoor Invite 1/28-1/29 UHSTCA Indoor at Olympic Oval 2/11-2/12 Simplot Games 2/17-2/19 (registration is NOT on Runnercard and historically requires a USATF membership) The Distance only meet at the Olympic Oval is not yet posted on Runnercard. It usually is the week after Weber State. Our spring season begins after President's Day weekend. Registration is due on March 1st. Outdoor track registration information will be posted early February. Fees are usually $175-$185. Our outdoor track competition schedule will be ready mid-February at the latest. For Spring Break, if we schedule a meet it would "possibly" be on Saturday, April 2nd in St. George. We do NOT do overnight travel, so we say "possibly" because the meet in St. George starts at 9AM... The season has officially ended and it is time to celebrate on Wednesday 5/26 from 6PM-8PM!
ATHLETES - you MUST complete this form by MONDAY AT NOON to let us know if you are attending (count for food order). Our banquet will be untraditional this year as it will take place at the track/football stadium and only athletes will receive a to-go dinner. From 5:15-6:30PM, athletes will be part of a fun, light-hearted competition that involves fundraising options for those friends and family who attend the banquet. We are asking athletes to arrive earlier because we will need athlete results by 6:30PM so we can do some calculations for donors and still have time for awards/recognition. ATHLETES - please click here to sign up for the "off events" you will participate in on Wednesday 5/26. Start times are listed and everything. We will close online registration at 3PM on Tuesday so parents/family/friends can plan on their guesses for certain athletes/events. Athletes ARE allowed to sign up the day of the event. THOSE INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING - please see this sheet. THOSE INTERESTED IN THE FUNDRAISER - See below for details on the fundraiser and how you can pledge money by guessing athlete's results. Click here to see the events athletes signed up for! Please arrive between 6:00-6:30 PM, go to the white tent at the finish line, grab a pledge form, fill it out, and place it in the box to await results.
