At our meet on Wednesday, I would like you to focus on humility. We are competing against Skyline and Brighton - rival schools- on our home turf. Our competitive energy will be high. Compete to your fullest. Most importantly, be a good sport and a better host. Swiss philosopher Henri Frederic Amiel theorized that "there is no respect for others without humility in one's self." Humility is accepting and being who we are while demonstrating modesty about your accomplishments and gifts. Humility is also valuing others for who they are and for their contributions. Before your race or after your race, say good luck or say good job. This is the best way for you to humble yourself and gain perspective. Saying "good luck" or "good job" will help you recognize that-while you may be rivals- you need each other to perform your best. Track and field is truly a team effort. It is important to acknowledge that everyone on the track and in the field is part of this community of awesome track & field enthusiasts. Good luck this Wednesday and this Friday, and remember your humility, discipline, and passion.
