Our bus will leave at 2:30PM from the performing arts building. REMEMBER YOUR UNIFORM, TEAM JACKET, and SPIKES! We plan to return around 8:00PM. See event schedule. Unfortunately, Brighton is unable to conduct the 4x200m and the long jump AND the throwing events will be at annex facility one block north of the campus on the NE side of Bengal Blvd. All field events will do three consecutive throws, no flights or finals. Parents, YES, you are allowed to be spectators at the meet IN THE STANDS WITH FACEMASKS.
At the meet, athletes MUST bring a facemask and wear it any time you are at our team "camp." I have not received instructions on when face masks will be required during competition. I encourage you to bring a plastic bag or a drawstring bag WITH YOUR NAME ON IT. In the event that you may need to remove your mask at the start line and put it back on at the finish line. Here is a link to the pdf for UHSAA Covid guidelines.
Whenever a competitive athlete (you) attends a competition, it is natural to set expectations for yourself and feel like others hold expectations for you. While we as a coaching staff want to see stellar marks, our main expectation is that you give your best efforts on that day and put your team first. Take time to quietly sift through the expectations that you have somewhere inside of you. Determine which expectations you have set for yourself (NOT ones that you feel parents or coaches have for you) and be compassionate with those expectations you set for yourself. The expectations you set for yourself are within your control. Have a somewhat ambitious objective goal (time or mark) but also have a couple of process goals. Process goals include things like- I will have enough clothing, etc. to keep myself warm or cool enough for unexpected weather OR I will focus on my knee drive at the start and push through the finish. This Tuesday, you will complete a goal sheet with an objective time/mark for each event. At the end of the goal sheet, there is a section for you to write strategy, form, mantra, and pre-race comments. The end of the goal sheet is where you set your process goals. Sometimes objective goals require conditions that are beyond your control, so... If you are feeling incredibly anxious at the meet, it may be a good idea to move your objective goal to the back burner and see if that helps ease some stress. Most of you have put in at least a few weeks of practice, so we coaches are eagerly waiting to see you put all the pieces together for the first time this season! Most importantly, HAVE FUN and ENJOY THE SUPPORT OF YOUR TEAMMATES!
