This first week was difficult with our track still covered in snow, but we survived with resorting to indoor workouts for a lot of our athletes. Thank you to the athletes sticking through it with us and for showing up every day regardless of where we are working out at!
A few notes going into week 2:
-PARENTS! Please visit the "volunteer" tab of this website to sign up to help with meets and provide snacks for our meets. I know it is a big ask to help with our meets, but if you don't volunteer then that means us coaches have to step in and not be able to actually coach your athletes and get them the feedback they need to get better and succeed. With enough volunteers we can make it so that you can leave and go watch your athlete when it is their time to compete. It will be a group effort by you parents for everyone to watch their athletes and allow us coaches to coach.
-I will be submitting the roster from Register My Athlete to the office on Monday. Once submitted, participation fees will be applied to every athlete's student account. Those should be ready to pay by about Wednesday. If the fee has not been paid by Tuesday, March 14th, the athlete will be ineligible to compete in our first meet on the 15th.
-Any athletes on fee waivers can send me a message on Slack and ask for a shoe voucher. Salt Lake Running Company will be sending us vouchers for any athletes that are in need of training shoes, and they also have limited spikes. I cannot get a list of fee waiver athletes to give these to so they need to reach out to me about getting one!
-We will be getting our team picture taken for the yearbook this Monday, March 6th at 2:25 after school. We will have everyone wear the green jackets that everyone receives their first year on our team. All returning athletes need to wear their jacket and all new athletes will get one on Monday.
-All athletes need to be prepared to practice outside every day next week! If the track is covered in snow then most of our athletes (minus distance athletes) will practice inside, but athletes need to be ready to workout outside on any given day. For all non-distance runners, this means SWEATS, a SWEATSHIRT, and any other warm clothing they may want to wear. This is not just a preferred thing, but expected. I am not ok with athletes practicing outside without sweats and at least a jacket/sweatshirt in cold weather.
-We will be beginning to take attendance everyday this coming week. Every athlete is expected to be at practice EVERY DAY. Athletes who are not consistently attending practice may lose their privilege to compete at meets.
-With attendance starting, I need schedules for all of our multi-activity athletes this coming week. Please compare your other activity's schedule with our track schedule and I need an outline of when you will and will not be at practice and meets. This does not mean just send me a picture of your other activity's schedule, but sit down and compare that schedule with the track schedule and tell me which meets you will miss and what days of practice you will need to miss.
-If you haven't joined, join our Slack! This is where we do our daily messaging. You can join different groups within the Slack channel that are specific to you. Parents, please join the parents channel. Athletes need to join the athletes channel and then the channel for their event group!
